Description
BETTER BALANCE I & II Seminars
“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space, is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” Victor E. Frankl
BETTER BALANCE I & II Seminars use sensory, embodied learning and partner collaboration to deepen knowledge of the elements required for an efficient balanced walk, and how using these elements can prevent falling.
Better Balance I: Awareness to Planes of Action
(pre-requisite minimum 21-30 hrs of TOUCH TO INFORM experience )
A focus on the 3 planes of movement (sagittal, frontal and horizontal), teaches how to disengage patterns that clients have developed, and supports better functional balance. Participants build upon their previous experience from TOUCH TO INFORM Seminars, demonstrating an integrative proficiency with new ways to disengage muscular tension, work within the ‘action pattern’ that the injury, pain/ tension presents, and help clients stay involved with interest and inquiry in their own self-care.
THEME: Planes of Action in relation to functional movements
Module 1: Saggital Plane
Module 2: Frontal Plane
Module 3: Horizontal Plane
Module 4: TriPlane Action 1
Module 5: TriPlane Action 2
“In dynamic equilibrium, the question is not standing or falling but how large is the shock that the system can receive before recovery of development becomes impossible. The greater number of smaller systems that make up the large one, the greater is the likelihood of recovery and survival.” Moshe Feldenkrais, D.Sc. 1980
Better Balance II – 5 Ways to Enhance Balance
(pre-requisit: Better Balance I )
A focus on neurological aspects to refine the coordination of musculature to prevent falling and find ‘better balance’ from within. You learn to Reawaken reflexes to help enhance neurological coordination. Through Partner exchanges you develop the ability to enhance elements necessary to maintain Dynamic Balance. Applications for TOUCH TO INFORM concepts to be used for Better Balance with different populations will be included, i.e. young children, athletes, as well as those with limited abilities.
Module 1; Foundation and Orientation – eyes, vestibular and proprioceptor System, Feet/ankles
Module 2: Dynamic Balance – Maintaining ability to Counter Balance
Module 3: Conscious Falling – strategies to maintain balance, off balance
Module 4: Maintaining a Stable yet Mobile CORE
Module 5: Integrative Walking with Applications for Better Balance
