40 Years ago, without any awareness, I was sleeping with my hands and teeth clenched.
My dentist asked me if I grind my teeth at night and I laughed it off – Ha Ha
Then, I had the interesting, unexpected fortune of waking up one morning, [after I had engaged in this process that heightened my awareness] and to my surprise – there I was, on my back with my mouth wide open and arms spread wide. I didn’t remember ever waking up in that position in my life. I was a stomach sleeper and I then had the realization that my habitual way of waking up every morning was: on my stomach, with my hands and teeth clenched!
The point being, I would never have even realized this pattern, until I had experienced what it was like NOT to be doing it. Make sense? My brain heard the old free pattern I had as a child when I was free from stress, worry, or anxiety and this experience clearly brought to my attention that old pattern. Of course, following that morning, there was a dance between old patterns and new, but now I was aware of every time I clenched my hands or jaw!
AND, with AWARENESS I could do something about it.
